RPSO assists law enforcement at LaPlace
ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana (KALB) – Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office sends ten MPs to LaPlace and other areas of St. John the Baptist Parish to help their local law enforcement agencies deal with hurricane damage Ida.
“The police over there, the sheriffs, the deputies, whatever, lost their homes too. They were damaged too, they are a bit out of place. So we go out there to relieve them to help them with security, patrolling, things of that nature, so that they can take care of their personal affairs, ”said RPSO Sheriff Mark Wood.
Sheriff Wood told us that RPSO MPs will be fully self-sufficient for the duration of their stay.
“We take ATVs, full trucks, vehicles to help with safety and whatever they need us to do there, we’re heading in that direction. We are fully self-sufficient, we have campers, we have our own gas, we have our own generators, our own food, ”said Sheriff Wood.
Sheriff Wood said that despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Ida, he is still impressed with how the community is responding to help their neighbors.
“Everyone is rallying with their tractors, their vehicles, I mean, that’s what it’s all about,” Sheriff Wood said. “We’re just going to help our fellows in the south and ladies, and we can’t wait to be there.”
