The technology company Donr secures its investments and takes charitable steps
Newcastle’s tech-for-good platform Donr has secured its third tranche of investment and has achieved two key milestones in its goal of helping charities recover from the pandemic.
The digital fundraising app, which has been used by a number of charity calls to help increase donations during lockdowns, signed its 5,000th charity client this week and also hit the point of benchmark by helping to raise £ 5million through its platform.
The company – chosen as one of the Journal’s businesses to watch in 2021 – has also secured an investment of £ 400,000 to help it expand its work and create new jobs.
Donr, which launched in November 2018, specializes in SMS, which has played a key role in helping charities generate income over the past year, while other forms of fundraising have taken off. been suspended.
In 2020, nearly 300,000 people donated to 3,263 charities using Donr, an increase of over 500% from the previous year. Charities that benefited included FareShare, the Samaritans, Chester Zoo and the Trussell Trust, while also helping the BBC Children in Need and John Lewis fundraising appeals.
Donr expects to grow again this year with the development of a number of new giving solutions that he hopes will attract more charities to sign up.
This development work follows investment from Northstar Ventures, the Future Fund and an angel investor. The investment follows previous rounds of £ 300,000 in 2019 and £ 350,000 last year.
In addition to using the new funds to expand the company’s offering, Donr plans to increase its workforce by seven over the next 12 months.
Chris Newell, CEO of Donr, said: “It is a great honor to know that our technology has now facilitated over £ 5million in donations to UK based charities. We continue to be inspired by the strength and resilience of these organizations, as well as the generosity of their donors, over the past year. “
“As a secure and truly contactless method, SMS continues to grow as we enter the new normal – but we are also very excited to showcase our innovative new donation solutions on the platform later this year. It’s an exciting time of milestones and future growth here at Donr.
Richard Charnley, Investment Manager at Northstar Ventures, said: “Digital fundraising methods have proven to be more important than ever over the past year.
“We are proud to continue to support Donr and its commitment to delivering smart, easy-to-use donation technology to the third sector, and we look forward to more innovative product launches later this year. “
